Company History
Guten Foods, Inc. owns and operates the
Rheinlander German Restaurant, Gustav’s Bier Stube and Gustav’s German Pub &
Grill.
The Rheinlander was established in 1963 by founder Horst Mager, a German
immigrant. Since its inception, the Rheinlander has provided its guests a unique
and special dining experience. Both locals and the city’s visitors have
celebrated their special occasions at one of the city’s most cherished dining
establishments. The Rheinlander is proud to have served President Gerald Ford,
Mayor Mildred Schwab, Senator Ron Wyden, Rowdie Roddy Piper and actor Jean
Claude Van Dam, musicians Hall and Oates, Jerry Garcia, Dolly Parton, Charlie
Williams Band, and Gino Vinetti.
Gustav’s concept was purposely developed to compliment the Mager company
mainstay, Der Rheinlander. Gustav’s atmosphere and menu reflect a more casual
approach to German dining. Gustav’s opened its doors in 1992 at the Sandy
Boulevard location. A second location opened in Clackamas in 1994.
In May of 1997, Horst Mager turned sixty and retired, selling the business to
his daughter Suzeanne Mager. Suzeanne is President and Owner of Guten Foods,
Inc. As a sixth generation restaurateur, Suzeanne will continue the success that
has been awarded their family due to hard work, high standards and careful
attention to the little details that keep their guests coming back.
